What is the Vietnamese avocado smoothie, sinh tố bơ?
It's exactly as it sounds; an avocado smoothie. Sinh tố, pronounced "sing toeh" means smoothie in Vietnamese, and bơ, pronounced "buh" means butter or avocado. In this case, it means avocado. Stay with me here - there are 2 meanings. Trái bơ means avocado fruit in Vietnamese. So before I confuse you, let's move on. The Vietnamese avocado smoothie, sinh tố bơ, is delicious as a midnight snack in Vietnam as it is a breakfast smoothie in America. I have a sensitive stomach so when I make it, I can control what is it in and keep it creamy, smooth, and luscious. I am sensitive to milk and have developed a slight lactose intolerance so I prefer condensed milk which also works as a sweetener. So if you have some dairy intolerance but can process condensed milk this recipe is gold. The 2 main ingredients are avocadoes and condensed milk combined with some crushed ice. If you don't have or want to use condensed milk, then sugar is a great substitute.

🛒Recipe Ingredients
Ingredient Notes:
- Ice: Ice in any shape or form is essential to this smoothie. Ice will blend well with the avocado.
- Condense milk: Condense milk is traditionally used in Vietnamese avocado smoothies (sinh tố bơ). There are 2 leading brands that I grew up using, the Longevity Brand and the Black & White Brand with a cow. We called the Longevity brand sữa ông gia, and the Black and White brand, sữa bò. If you decide to get one of these, stop by your local Asian grocery store first. Any condensed milk will work just fine! Try the Borden Eagle Brand, at this time of posting it is priced at $3.19.
- Avocado: Any variety of avocados will do, so long as they are ripe. Ripe avocadoes will have a buttery texture best for smoothies.
- Milk: Milk makes the smoothie, creamy and smooth. But if you are allergic to cow's milk you can omit dairy altogether and use oatmeal milk, soy milk, or water.
See the recipe card below for a full list of ingredients and measurements.
↔Substitutions & Variations
- Swap out condensed milk for sugar.
- For a creamier smoothie, you can add plain yogurt to the mix.
- Additional toppings you can add to your Vietnamese avocado smoothie (sinh tố bơ) are whipped cream, chia seeds, and even boba pearls!

- If the avocado smoothie starts to separate just mix it back up!
- Add additional sugar if you like it sweeter.
